Working For GameSpot!

I finally made it through the woods here at Gamespot. It  a real journey for me to discover what Gamespot has to offer. Random people  messaged me asking things like; who are you, where did you come from, are you a girl, are you pretty (haha, it doesnt matter guys!), are you a real Gamespot employee and other fun comments.
I have known of Gamespot since I started gaming online in 1997 Yeah I came a year late from 96 Quake 1 fame!. But it was more so checking news from time to time. I normally went to Gamespot when it was linked on some other gaming sites I would check daily.
After my investigation about the community, I have never seen such organized forums. Running Quake3world.com forums were extremely stressful for me in the day, let alone all of the network sites with XtremeNetwork. I think GS has a firm grip on the forums, and there’s quite a few great leaders in there that deserve a lot of credit for their accomplishment.
I thought I would share my background in the gaming community. Many people know of me from my alias more than my real name. JodyR is a new thing even for me. It is my work alias. I kept spazzing myself out at times.  Like I would post a reply to someone in the forums, then go back to the thread to re-read what they shared. I would skim for my alias CaliGirl then: “WAIT, was my post DELETED! WHAT THE?! Oh…. my nickname is JodyR. Duh…” teehee

If you haven’t heard of me yet, my background is mostly the Quake community. Quake 1, Q2 and Q3 players know of me some way or another from either playing me in the Quake 1 days, seeing me at events like E3, Quakecon, PGL finals or during the time I ran Quake3world.com, id Software’s official fansite.

I have come a long way and can say Gamespot so far has been one of the coolest places I have worked at since my days working for Mplayer (one of the first multiplayer gaming services that happened to be bought out by Gamespy in 2001).

With that said, I have also worked with sites like LFNetwork.com (Jedinknight.net, LucasGames.com, and more), Gamers.com (when it was known as Gamers Extreme) and Gamesmania’s Pingthis.com. Not to mention the numerous sites from XtremeNetwork (again, Mplayer’s network of news and fansites). Then for the past few years I have run a gaming site called LadyGamers.com, and through the site I ended up being a tournament coordinator for MsQuakecons that are held at Quakecon every year. This year is the most exciting since id Software has decided to make the tournament official. I cant wait to attend the event!

To bring things up to speed, I am working on gaming tool called GameCenter. I can count tons of friends who broke their banks just trying to rent servers, even a few clanmates of mine in XtremePrejudice have had their fair share. It gets costly on a monthly basis. I can’t wait to share this nifty tool with my friends in the coming weeks! 😀
